Uncharted Rhythm

Honest reflections on unexpected exits, planned retirements, and finding your new rhythm.

About Me

Writing has always helped me process and make sense of major life events — especially the moments that stretch us, shake us, or redirect us without warning. After nearly 50 years of full‑time work across multiple sectors, retirement opened a new kind of space: one where curiosity, reflection, and learning finally share the same space.

I created Uncharted Rhythm as a way to explore the emotional, financial, and social terrain of life’s transitions. Some changes we choose. Others arrive uninvited. All of them ask us to respond, adapt, and rediscover who we are becoming. This blog is my attempt to understand those moments more deeply — and to share what I’ve learned along the way.

Launching this platform means learning a whole new language, technical skills, and backend processes just to keep the site alive. I’m a neophyte blogger, still pressing buttons to see what they do, still learning the ropes, still making mistakes. But as the famous catchphrase from Galaxy Quest goes: “Never give up, never surrender!” That sums up my mindset and this new adventure to a tee. I am determined to press on and learn as I go.

I don’t claim to be an expert in workplace psychology or human behavior. What I do have is nearly five decades of lived work experience — from blue‑collar and journeyman roles to private‑sector management and almost three decades in local government leadership. I’ve navigated job loss, reinvention, career pivots, and retirement. I’ve led teams, rebuilt confidence, and learned how identity shifts when the work we’ve done for years suddenly changes or ends.

These experiences have shaped how I see transition, resilience, and the quiet emotional work of rebuilding. They’ve taught me that change is rarely tidy, often humbling, and sometimes unexpectedly clarifying.

My hope is that the reflections I share here offer grounding, perspective, or even a sense of companionship. If you’re navigating a difficult chapter — chosen or unplanned — I hope this space reminds you that you’re not alone, and that others have walked similar paths and found their way forward.

I promise to write with honesty, humility, and curiosity. I’m not here to preach or prescribe. I’m here to explore, reflect, and connect — and I’m grateful you’re here with me.

Let the adventure continue!
